Ealasaid ('ee-la-say-d') is the Gaelic for Elizabeth, and that of
course, is me. And this, for any few who may be interested, is a little
about myself.
My father was born in Dalkeith, just outside of Edinburgh and in his
early teens emigrated with my grandparents to Canada.
I was
raised in a strong Scottish community and grew up with a deep personal
pride in, and love of, my Scottish roots.
After visiting
Scotland with my parents, I returned to Scotland's Highlands on my own,
first to visit, and then again the following year, to stay.
The Grampian Highlands were home for many years and as I explored, my
feelings for Scotland, its beauty, history and its people, grew further.
When I returned to Canada, I left the home of my heart and took with me
a promise that I would, one day, return. Sort of like Douglas MacArthur,
but of course an entirely different frame of mind.
My career in Canada evolved into a number of years in corporate travel
and public affairs, but in 1997 it was time to both keep my promise and
find a way to return to my true home, Scotland.
"Ealasaid's Scottish Tours" was born on a visit to a family wedding in
Tomintoul, where at my family’s urging they convinced me that my passion
for Scotland; talents as a guide and travel background were being
wasted.
My
dream is now a reality as I live year round in Scotland (with my
Highlander husband) and am very happy to be able to share my passion for
and knowledge of Scotland with my vacation guests.
Whether
you choose to join us "or no", I do hope that you will visit Scotland.
It truly is the land of warm welcomes and, a heartfelt
Haste Ye Back!
